Jamie over at The Book Junkie's Bookshelf is hosting a book club for the month of September, for
The Hunger Games!!!
The Link: First Discussion
The Book:
Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with every one out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
The Question:
For those of us who have read The Hunger Games before what is it about the book that you decided to pick it back up and discuss it as part of a group? Those of us who haven't read The Hunger Games yet what are your pre-concieved notions about the book, what are your hopes for the book? Has anyone read other books by Ms. Collins outside of The Hunger Games trilogy? What are your thoughts on her other works?
The Answer:
I have read this book. And I LOVELOVELOVED it! I read it last year, not knowing how amazing and addicting it would be, or how painstaking it would be to wait for the other books!
I decided to pick this book up again partly because I want to read the other two, and I want to get fully back into the books, and partly because it was an amazing book! It was fun and fast and unpredictable. I also love the experience of sharing a book with other readers.
As far as reading her other books, I haven't. Maybe after this series I'll look into her other stuff.
Thanks to Jamie for hosting this book club, and Happy Reading!!
